Using Social Networks Wisely

Who doesn't know Facebook? or Twitter, MySpace, Instagram and many others social networks? The number of variety and numbers of social networking sites are exploding on the internet. Today, Facebook has over 800 millions of users. Social networking sites can be a great place to meet other people with your interests. Yup! They can totally be a fun place. The positive sides, however, come with a real danger if you don't use them wisely. The following tips can help teens and adults to stay safe while networking online.

1. It’s okay to reject friend requests. Even though it’s your old friend, if you don’t really want to see their updates on your newsfeed, it’s okay to reject them. Not being friend in cyber world doesn’t mean you’re not in real life.
2.     Sort your photos that go online. Be careful of what you upload to your social networks because some people might just steal it and post it on other site that you don’t know.
3.     Don’t complain about your job, your boss or the company that hires you. It makes you look unprofessional and it might get you fired.
4.    Respect the community. If you join an online community, you have to respect the rules that exist. Just because it is onine, doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want.
5.    Protect your personal information. Never post online personal information such as your address, telephone numbers, social security number or account number.
6.    Be wary if a person you met online wants to meet you in person. Check the person out throughly before you decide to meet them in person. Ask your friend if they know the person. Even if you decide to meet the person, bring your friends with you and don't go by yourself!
7.    Think twice. What you post online today can have an impact on your future. Before you press the enter button, give yourself some minutes to re-read and re-think what you’re gonna post. Think about your family, your friends and your image.
