Excessive Self-Love

Self-love simply means to love your self.  When you love yourself, it means  you believe that you are worth it. Ever heard, how can you love other people if you don’t even love yourself? Total self-love and acceptance are the only foundation for happiness and love for others. You know why? Because no matter what people say about you, they won’t bring you down! According to a research, people with a high self-esteem tend to be more happy. Well, sounds very good, doesn’t it? But wait a minute! Don’t jump to a conclusion that self-love is good. Because it also can kill you, quite literally.

Are we doing more harm than good
People suggest that you don’t love other people too much.  Same thing with ourselves. There’s a moment when we cross the line, and we just love ourselves too much. It can make you become disrespectful to other people cause you think you’re just so perfect. We could lose our emphaty to others. People could tell by the way you talk, the way you walk and the way you use your body language. Perhaps you want to be confident, but instead you give people negative attitude. People that love themselves too much usually are craving for compliments from other people, that’s why they sometimes brag and exaggerate their achievements. It feels better for them when other people adore them. The worst part is, they won’t have the ability to view the world from others’ perspective.

Too much self-love will kill you
Have you ever heard of a story about a man who always thinks about himself. All he does is adoring his own self until he falls in love with his reflection on the river water. He finally dies because he falls into the water when he tries to kiss his reflection. You see what I mean? Giving yourself to much self-love can make you become arrogant. Therefore, it is very important to control your self-love.

Real love, real action.
The idea of “loving yourself” often seems cliché. Now think about it. What does that really mean? How do we know the difference between a self-love and a selfish love? What can we do practically to love ourselves in the right way?
•    Take care of your body.
•    Give yourself a little extra comfort.
•    Be grateful of what you receive in your life no matter how small it is.
We are want to condemn self-love; but what we really mean to condemn is contrary to self-love. It is that mixture of selfishness and self-hate that permanently pursues us, that prevents us from loveing others, and that prohibits us from losing ourselves.
- Paul Valery (French Poet, 1871-1945)

Using Social Networks Wisely

Who doesn't know Facebook? or Twitter, MySpace, Instagram and many others social networks? The number of variety and numbers of social networking sites are exploding on the internet. Today, Facebook has over 800 millions of users. Social networking sites can be a great place to meet other people with your interests. Yup! They can totally be a fun place. The positive sides, however, come with a real danger if you don't use them wisely. The following tips can help teens and adults to stay safe while networking online.

1. It’s okay to reject friend requests. Even though it’s your old friend, if you don’t really want to see their updates on your newsfeed, it’s okay to reject them. Not being friend in cyber world doesn’t mean you’re not in real life.
2.     Sort your photos that go online. Be careful of what you upload to your social networks because some people might just steal it and post it on other site that you don’t know.
3.     Don’t complain about your job, your boss or the company that hires you. It makes you look unprofessional and it might get you fired.
4.    Respect the community. If you join an online community, you have to respect the rules that exist. Just because it is onine, doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want.
5.    Protect your personal information. Never post online personal information such as your address, telephone numbers, social security number or account number.
6.    Be wary if a person you met online wants to meet you in person. Check the person out throughly before you decide to meet them in person. Ask your friend if they know the person. Even if you decide to meet the person, bring your friends with you and don't go by yourself!
7.    Think twice. What you post online today can have an impact on your future. Before you press the enter button, give yourself some minutes to re-read and re-think what you’re gonna post. Think about your family, your friends and your image.

English : A Key to be Successful

English is the most used and practical language in the world. An American author, John Naisbitt, once said that there are, in the world today, more than one billion English speakers – people who speak English as a mother tounge, as a second language , or as a foreign language. Sixty percent of the world’s radio broadcasts are in English. Seventy percet of the world’s mail is addressed in English. Eighty percent of all international telephone conversations are in English. So, it is very clear that English is an international language and used in all around the world.
Now let me tell you a short story telling us how important English is.
One day, and applicant for a prestigious position in a company came for an interview. He was the best student in his former school and was really good at operating computer. However, after a moment of the interview, the interviewer ask him some questions by using English. Guess what? NONE of English words came out from his mouth. Finally, he went home dissapointedly because he failed the interview and automatically could not get a good position in that company.
This story shows us that English takes part in finding a good job. English gives people the oppurtunity to get better jobs. Many big companies require people with English skill to perform their jobs. It also helps people to have a higher position at work. In addition, a person can travel anywhere ad find a job where English is spoken or required. In fact, it is one of some benefits of mastering English. At last, English can increase the quality of the employees in Indonesia that will be highly valued by employers worldwide.
Next, English gives people the access to communicate with others around the world. For instance, nowadays people are using English through social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and many others to get in contact. Besides, big organizations like UN and UNICEF use English to communicate. As a result, every country provides English as a Foreign Language at school. Therefore, it is important to learn English to connect people everywhere.
The last but not least, English is necessary to improve someone’s confidence. For example, if we go to the hospital, airport, government offive or any other important places, we will feel more comfortable if we master English.
In conclusions, the world never stops developing, people in countries throughout the world are competing to invent something better for the future. By mastering English, we can get countless benefits for the future. English is the key to be successful anywhere.

Stereotypes - definition and examples.

A stereotype is used to categorize a group of people. People don't understand that type of person, so they put them into classifications, thinking that everyone who is that needs to be like that, or anyone who acts like their classifications is one. For example, all Asians eat rice everyday, Goths are all about black make ups, black clothes, depressed and hated by society, or Punks are mohawks, spikes, chains, and always getting into trouble. This what I mean by a stereotype. Some of this might not be true.
There are also common stereotypes of men and women :
  • Men are stronger than women
  • Men always do all the work
  • Men are messy and unclean
  • Women are not good at sports
  • Women can't do as good of a job as men
Stereotypes also exist about cultures, religion and grouping of individuals. Such as :
  • All white Americans are fat and lazy
  • All Moslems are terrorists
  • All teenagers are rebels
  • Only anorexic women can become models
Is it good to stereotype?
NOT at all. Stereotype is not only hurtful but it is also wrong. Even if the stereotype is correct in some cases, constantly putting someone down based on your preconceived perceptions will not encourage them to succeed. Stereotype can spread hatred among people and for those who are the victims, their lives will be driven by fear.

How to be a good speaker!

Nowadays, we have a lot more oppurtunities to talk to others. Communication is very important. Therefore we should learn how to be a good speaker because letting people understand what we talk about allows us to do our job more successfully.

Here are some ways to improve our public speaking ability :

1. Make an eye contact. It's okay to look above their heads, making it looks as if you were looking at them in the eyes where you're really not!

2. Speak clearly and make sure that your pronunciation is right.

3. Attract others and get their attention!

4. Use your hand gestures. But don't over do it flying your arms all over the place. Just occasionally move your hands.

5. Be polite and friendly.

6. Watch your speed. Don't talk too fast or too slow.

7. Avoid monotony

Why do we have to be OPEN-MINDED?

Before you read this further, this might come accross your mind, "What does open-minded mean?"

Open-minded refers to a person who is willing to consider new ideas/opinions; unprejudiced and not judgemental.

WHY is it important to be open-minded?
Well, being open-minded gives you a chance to keep learning because you are always willing to listen to others' opinions without judging them. Unlike those who are close-minded and judgmental, they won't listen to anybody, that's why they will never learn.

Now that you guys kinda have an idea of what open-minded is and how it is important for you. Let's check on how to be open-minded.

HOW to be open-minded :
  • Don't be judgemental. This means don't be too quick to judge people. For example, if you live in a muslim country and you see a foreign woman walking around with some really short pants.. Don't judge them as a bad person or something, because she might come from a different cultures, and her cultures might say that it is okay to wear whatever they like. It's not wrong, it's just different.

  • Remember that your opinion is not the only one. Be open to new innovations, ideas or opinions.

In conclusion, it is important for the people, especially youth, to be open-minded because if you're open-minded not only that you'll be able to keep on learning, but also it will broaded your mind. On the other hand, being close-minded can make you take stereotypes easily and never learn anything.

Time Management

1. Don't be a procrastinator
Believe it or not, procrastinator can be the cause of our stress!

2. Set your priority.
Knowing what matters most to us is important. We can't do everything and we shouldn't feel like we have to. Make a to-do list activity!

3. Be organized.
We'll be surprised by how much time we save just by being well-organized. When we lost our Biology notes, it's gonna take hours to track down the notes, how useless!

4. Plan ahead.
When we have a big event coming up, we should prepare ahead of time. Finish all the assignments beforehand, so you can enjoy your time without thinking of other stuff that needs to be done.

5. Know your best time.
Each person has a best time. Find your best time when you can be very productive and get all the assignments done.

6. Making it a habit.
Sticking to the schedule is hard at first, but it's worth the trouble. This time management system will become second nature.

Time equals Life. Therefore, waste your time = waste your life. Master your time = master your life.
